Rangers Are Considered The Best Place For Former Cardinals Rising Star To Land
It appears that a previous rising star of the Cardinals could sign a contract with the Rangers.
In free agency, there is a huge market for a former St. Louis Cardinal.
Jordan Montgomery, the former ace of the Cardinals, has been in high demand this offseason. He is among the best free agents out there, and a lot of teams have expressed interest in signing him as they try to strengthen their starting lineups.
It’s uncertain where Montgomery will end up, but Mark Feinsand of MLB.com believes the Texas Rangers are the most likely destination at this time.
“A return to Texas has seemed like the logical move for Montgomery, who helped lead the Rangers to the first World Series title in franchise history last fall,” Feinsand stated. “In an attempt to entice Montgomery back to Texas, a nearby barbecue restaurant has even offered the left-hander free barbecue for the rest of his life if he re-ups with the Rangers.
“Why then hasn’t it occurred? Montgomery might just be a victim of a market that hasn’t seemed to be eager to make major transactions, except from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Montgomery, who has also been linked to the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Angels, and San Francisco Giants in recent weeks, is best served by the Rangers.”
With the Cardinals and Rangers in 2023, Montgomery enjoyed a fantastic season. It was after St. Louis traded him to Texas that he was at his best in the final stretch. The large lefty had his best season during the postseason, helping the Rangers win the World Series.
In 2024, it wouldn’t be all that shocking to see him return to Texas.
