Pittsburgh Steelers sign former LSU star punter Brad Wing

Several seasoned members of the practice squad, including punter Brad Wing, safety Eric Rowe, and inside linebackers Myles Jack and Jaylon Smith, saw their contracts expire. Pittsburgh will have to resign them as free agents if they decide to bring them back.

Throughout the last few games of the season, Rowe and Jack were crucial players for the Steelers, helping the team convert a three-game winning streak into a postseason berth by replacing a number of injured players.

During his three starts in the regular season, Rowe racked up 29 tackles, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble, two passes deflected, and one interception. During his three games, Jack had 17 tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, and two quarterback hits.

Jack stated that while Pittsburgh made the final decision, he hoped to play for the Steelers again the following season following their playoff defeat to the Buffalo Bills.

“It’s definitely been fun playing ball again,” Jack commented. “It’s been enjoyable, even though tonight was absolutely difficult. How much I had missed it dawned on me. It helped me rediscover my love.”

After a five-year absence, Wing, 32, punted in two games for Pittsburgh, averaging forty-five yards per attempt.

Although Smith was added to the Steelers’ inside linebacker room at the close of the regular season to provide veteran depth, he never made it out of the practice squad for a game.
