Houston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik is a wanted man despite his team’s crushing defeat in the NFL Divisional Playoffs on Saturday. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Slowik will meet with the Washington Commanders, Atlanta Falcons, and Seattle Seahawks as the brilliant offensive mind makes his rounds as an NFL head coach.
The 36-year-old has already conducted interviews with the Tennessee Titans and Carolina Panthers. Slowik, who is a member of the Kyle Shanahan coaching tree, is coming off of his first season as the Texans offensive coordinator, leading a significantly improved team that finished 12th in total yards and 13th in points scored. Slowik oversaw an incredible rookie season from quarterback C.J. Stroud.
Really, it should not be shocking that Slowik is attracting a lot of attention. He was the 49ers’ passing-game coordinator in 2022 before coming to the Texans. He also worked as Shanahan’s assistant in San Francisco from 2019 to 21.
Among Slowik’s prior experiences are three years spent as a defensive assistant in Washington. Under the famous Mike Shanahan, that coaching staff saw Shanahan, Matt LaFleur, Mike McDaniel, and Sean McVay coach. Slowik clearly have the ancestry required for success.
Out of the five teams who are vying for his services, the Atlanta Falcons are the front-runners to sign six-time Super Bowl winner Bill Belichick. Washington is focusing on Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, in the meanwhile.
In either case, Bobby Slowik becoming a head coach would not be shocking. He appears to be the ideal match for the Panthers and rookie quarterback Bryce Young.
