The New York Yankees’ uniforms are sports classics, as the team has seldom changed their style during the last century. Home uniforms always have the trademark pinstripes, while road grays always have “New York” in block letters.
The Yankees make tiny adjustments to their clothes, and it looks that they will make a small but obvious modification to their road outfits this season. According to Paul Lukas of Uni Watch, New York may be removing the white trim surrounding the words “New York” from their road grays, as well as the white outline on the sleeves.
The change would give the Yankees’ road uniforms a vintage vibe, as they initially adopted the white accent in 1973. New York wore a similar uniform to their Field of Dreams game against the Chicago White Sox in 2021, although they are expected to be more current.
The Yankees take pride in their historic legacy, which explains why they haven’t made many substantial uniform changes throughout their history. New York begins the season against the Houston Astros, so if the Yankees do have new road clothes, they will premiere on Opening Day.
