JUST IN: Joe Buck acknowledges that his “disgusting” call to Randy Moss was over the line.

The Vikings are both Joe Buck’s most and least favorite call of his career.

In his decades of announcing sports, what call by Joe Buck was his favorite? Simple. The “Minneapolis Miracle” occurred when Case Keenum connected with Stefon Diggs for a touchdown with seconds remaining in the Vikings vs. Saints 2017–18 playoff game.

What was Buck’s least favorite broadcasting moment? This one takes the cake. He made the unfortunate choice to call Randy Moss’s staged mooning of the Lambeau Field crowd during the 2004–05 playoffs a “disgusting act.”

Buck stated the following this week in response to a question on the This Is Football podcast about a call he wished he could go back and change.

“The Randy Moss call, for sure, with the ‘that’s disgusting,'” Buck stated. “The irony of it all is that, 1) we spent a little time together at FOX during his tenure, and 2) we are currently at ESPN together. Michelle, my spouse, hosts the pregame program. Randy was the most considerate person to my wife out of everyone on the pregame show, even before we arrived because he hadn’t been there since we arrived. And on Mondays, I would walk over and help her; he would be the one to jump off the set and come down, and we would slap hands, bend in for hugs, and give high fives. As time passes, I find myself thinking more and more, “Man, I can’t believe that even came out of my mouth.”

I never dwell on “I wish I could take that back,” “I want it back,” or any other negative emotion. It is not how I can live. If I want to accept that everything went well and that I made the call that I love to hear when it comes on, I also have to be able to accept taking a foot on the wrong tile.

However, I think that was a step too far when I receive that call. It wasn’t calculated. When you enter a stadium, you never know what to expect. I believe that my understanding of the situation has grown since learning more about the supporters’ actions and the history behind them on the team bus. Once more, it’s not anything that bothers me at night, but now that I have more knowledge, I believe I would definitely back off a little bit on that one.”
