son’s best win, the Texas Longhorns traveled to Norman to face the No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners on Tuesday night. They had won five straight against their arch rivals and were looking for more. With a strong second half, they accomplished exactly that, sending the “Horns Down” fans in the Oklahoma audience home with a defeat. Max Abmas scored a game-high 22 points, and Dylan Disu added 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Longhorns (14-5, 3-3) stopped No. 11 Oklahoma down the line in the second half, winning 75-60.
Texas guard Chendall Weaver added a season-high 11 points and four rebounds off the bench, while Dillon Mitchell grabbed 13 rebounds and scored eight points.
Jalon Moore had a team-high 15 points for Oklahoma (15-4, 3-3), but the Sooners were outscored 43-27 in the second half after leading by one at halftime. The Longhorns had an early 7-0 lead, which grew to 18-9 following a 9-2 run, but Moore’s two thundering dunks spurred an eventual 17-2 Sooners surge, bringing the fans back into the game. Leading 28-22, the Sooners had already amassed a 13-0 advantage in fastbreak points, but the Longhorns weathered the storm and lead 32-31 at halftime. Texas was led by Abams and Weaver, who both scored eight points. A few minutes into the second half, the Longhorns went on a 10-0 run to grab a 47-39 lead.
The Sooners responded with a 9-2 run to escape a double-digit deficit, but things changed rapidly. Texas extended their advantage to eight before Disu’s triple gave the Longhorns a 65-54 lead, their largest of the game at that point following a 10-0 run.
From here, Texas dominated on both ends for the rest of the game, as the Sooners were unable to string together consistent offense to build a comeback. Meanwhile, Abmas and Disu ended the game. On Saturday, the Longhorns will travel to BYU to face the Cougars, ranked No. 21.
