Tiaoalii Savea, a former defensive tackle for Arizona, moved to Texas on Tuesday. The 6-foot-4, 305-pound junior had 22 tackles, including 1.5 sacks and six tackles for loss, in 12 games for the Wildcats the previous year. He recorded 14 tackles, 1.5 TFL, one pass breakup, one fumble recovery, and one blocked kick in seven games in 2022. After transferring from UCLA, where he played in ten games and recorded seven tackles in 2021, he joined Arizona.
Johnny Nansen, the former defensive coordinator for Arizona, is back with Savea after joining the Longhorns earlier this month as the linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator. Both T’Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy II, two exceptional defensive tackles for Texas, entered the NFL Draft.
Savea, defensive end Trey Moore (UTSA), safety Andrew Mukuba (Clemson), tight end Amari Niblack (Alabama), linebacker Kendrick Blackshire (Alabama), and wide receivers Matthew Golden (from Houston), Isaiah Bond (Alabama), and Silas Bolden (Oregon State) have all joined the Longhorns via transfer portal.
