Breaking News: Texas Rangers now in talk to sign another top experienced star

MLB rumors: Rangers are considering a reunion with Jordan Montgomery in free agency.
Jordan Montgomery still has a lot of logic in returning to the Rangers.

According to CBS Sports’ Jim Bowden, the team is also open to a reunion and is still in contact with the lefty in the hopes of reuniting with a crucial member of their World Series-winning team.

Jordan Montgomery Gives The Rangers A Fighting Chance In The ALCS
Numerous teams who were previously linked to Montgomery have moved on to other alternatives as his free agency drags on. Marcus Stroman was signed by the New York Yankees, but it probably wouldn’t stop them from re-signing their former top prospect.

Sonny Gray signed a contract with the St. Louis Cardinals, and Shota Imanaga joined the Chicago Cubs’ rotation. The New York Mets added Sean Manaea and Luis Severino to their rotation in an attempt to maximize production rather than quality.

Although the team has admitted that it is reducing payroll, Montgomery has attracted the attention of the Boston Red Sox.

Rangers and Montgomery get along well.
That means that the Rangers will have to compete for Montgomery’s services with the Los Angeles Angels and San Francisco Giants, among other teams.

However, returning to Texas has long appeared like the most likely course of action, particularly in light of Montgomery’s successful stint with the team in 2023.

Montgomery, who was acquired by the Rangers via a deal with the Cardinals, posted an impressive 160+ ERA in 11 starts during the regular season. In the postseason, he continued to be outstanding, pitching 31 innings with a 2.90 ERA and only allowed 10 earned runs.

Montgomery and the Rangers must be asking themselves, “Why tamper with such a good thing?”
