LSU’s top executive is hired by Auburn
One of LSU’s best staff members was lured away from Baton Rouge by the Auburn Tigers.
On Wednesday morning, the Auburn Tigers made a significant move.
Hugh Freeze is still in the process of appointing the Auburn football program’s desired leadership.
According to a number of sources on Wednesday, Auburn has appointed Will Redmond from LSU as the team’s general manager for football. As the current FootballScoop Director of Player Personnel of the Year, Redmond has quickly established himself as one of the nation’s best personnel directors.
When LSU had less than 40 scholarship players on the roster at the beginning of the Brian Kelly era, Redmond did his best work there, helping to assemble a team that would eventually win the SEC West in 2022 and attract Jaylen Daniels.
In the report about Auburn hiring Redmond, John Brice of FootballScoop wrote, “A Franklin, Tennessee, native, who climbed from sports information student-assistant at the University of Tennessee to deeply experienced personnel professional, Redmond’s grandparents first met at Auburn, even before the school was known as Auburn University.”
It made sense for the rising star in the field because of Redmond’s connections to Auburn and his vision for what Freeze is accomplishing on the Plains.
During his first year at Auburn, Freeze had to devote a significant amount of his energy on off-field responsibilities. Adding Redmond as a general manager was one of the offseason moves that should allow Freeze to concentrate more on game preparations and winning games for 2024 and beyond.
On the Plains, Auburn’s staff keeps changing throughout the Freeze era.
