Report: Ole Miss general manager Austin Thomas makes his third visit back to LSU
There are reports that a vital member of Ole Miss’ support staff is leaving to take a position elsewhere.
Austin Thomas, Ole Miss Senior Associate A.D./Football General Manager, will be departing Lane Kiffin’s staff to make a third trip back to LSU, according to sources who spoke with The Advocate and Geaux247.
In addition to serving as a liaison to campus stakeholders, Thomas joined Kiffin’s staff in 2022 and is responsible for overseeing the football program’s administrative and operational duties, with a focus on budget, scheduling, facilities, and non-coaching personnel.
Thomas was among the first in college football history to be appointed general manager of LSU. Thomas played a key role in a few top-5 signing classes during his two stays in Baton Rouge, and he left his mark on Ed Orgeron’s LSU team that won the 2019 national championship.
Thomas had worked for Kiffin at USC and Tennessee before those years. When he initially arrived in Knoxville with Kiffin, he worked as a defensive quality control coach. He then followed Kiffin to USC, where he was employed as an assistant director of player personnel.
The 2023 Ole Miss Rebels defeated No. 10 Penn State 38-25 in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl to become the first team in program history to ever record 11 wins in a season. With the No. 1 ranked transfer portal class at the time of writing, another top-20 high school signing class, and key players returning to be a part of a championship push, the Rebels close the season on a three-game winning streak and now have unparalleled program momentum.
