Another former Mets pitcher joins the competitive Rangers
According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, David Robertson and the Texas Rangers have reached an agreement on a one-year contract worth between $11 and $12 million.
Robertson, 38, divided his season between the Marlins and the Mets, finishing with a 3.03 ERA in 62 games. The Mets sold their assets at the deadline and acquired him to Miami after he finished with a 2.05 ERA and 14 saves in 40 appearances.
Before the 2023 season, Robertson inked a one-year, $10 million contract with the Mets, where he was expected to set up closer Edwin Diaz. However, Robertson had to step up after Diaz sustained the knee injury that sidelined him for the whole season.
Robertson joins Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom on the Rangers.
After struggling at first when he arrived in Miami, Robertson recovered in September, pitching 10 1/3 innings and recording 19 strikeouts. Robertson may be joined by other reinforcements from the Rangers, who are rumored to be interested in strengthening their bullpen.
