Two-time 1,000-yard receiver named Bills as top landing spot

Around halfway through the season, Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs hit a wall. He was unable to maintain a career-best pace and did not catch a touchdown in the final seven games of the season.

According to one source, the Bills may target free-agent receiver Michael Pittman Jr. to add a new face to the receiving group, which would greatly improve the offense. Pro Football Focus mentioned the Bills, along with a return to the Indianapolis Colts and the Kansas City Chiefs, as one of three potential landing locations.

Although the move would help Buffalo meet a critical need, it might end up being too costly for the cap-constrained Bills in the long run.

Strong Rivalry for Colts’ Best Receiver
Given that Diggs had a late-season slump and that No. 2 Gabe Davis is expected to enter free agency, the Bills will probably need to add some fresh receivers for the upcoming campaign. With two 1,000-yard seasons under his belt, including a career-high 109 catches for 1,152 yards and four touchdowns last season, Pittman has established himself as a dependable target for the Colts.

The Colts seem determined to hold onto the man they drafted in 2020, so it may be difficult for the Bills and other suitors to lure him away from Indianapolis, as SI.com’s Andrew Moore pointed out. Pittman has expressed positive opinions about the team, but he has also said he will explore free agency and try to get the best offer.

Pittman stated earlier this month, via SI.com, “I’m still a Colt as of right now until March whatever.” “But in terms of the contract, I’ve made it this far, so I’m happy here, but if I didn’t look into all of my options and choose the best fit, I wouldn’t be doing my due diligence.”

Pittman stated at the time that he had not yet engaged in contract talks with the Colts, but he anticipated doing so before to his free agency.

“It was kind of our agreement to wait until the end of the season and sort of feel it out,” he remarked. The reason there haven’t been any contract discussions or offers is because we didn’t think the timing was appropriate. I have never done this before, so I’m not sure when the right time is, but whenever it is.

Another Tight Offseason Awaits the Bills
The Bills may not have the financial resources to acquire a player of Pittman’s caliber. They will have limited salary cap space for significant free agent acquisitions during their upcoming offseason. The Bills’ general manager, Brandon Beane, stated during his season-ending press conference that while the team will still be competitive, they must be frugal with the little free money they have.

According to Beane, via the Niagara Gazette, “We’re not planning to take a year off and just not be competitive.” “Will certain parts of us be younger? Indeed. In certain cases, when attempting to manage your cap and paying a quarterback (such as Allen), as we have undoubtedly been in the past several years with certain players. That will not be a possibility. If we don’t have a chance to win it next year, I won’t be putting in my notice tonight.
