Good News: Texas Longhorns confirm another important signing

Officially, Kenny Baker joins the Longhorns as their new defensive line coach.
One of the biggest blows to the Texas Longhorns during the offseason was the loss of defensive line coach Bo Davis earlier this month. With the hire of former Miami Dolphins assistant Kenny Baker as the team’s new defensive line coach, the Horns have now formally identified their replacement.

“I had a great time interviewing with Kenny because he came highly recommended by people in the industry that I really respect.” He’ll be a fantastic addition to our team, according to a statement from Steve Sarkisian. “As a coach, he fulfills all the requirements, will be an excellent mentor to men, and will blend right in with us. We are thrilled to have Kenny on board and are looking forward to welcoming him to Austin and getting him going. With 56 sacks this season, the Dolphins stand third in the league behind only Kansas City (57) and Baltimore (60), demonstrating their superiority at pressuring the quarterback. The Dolphins, who ranked ninth in the league and allowed just 97.1 yards per game, were also among the top teams in the NFL against the run. “I’m thrilled to be collaborating with Coach Sark. In his coaching tenure, he has accomplished a great deal, and it is clear what he has done to rebuild Texas and establish this culture,” Baker stated. “I was ecstatic when he reached out, and it was obvious that I wanted the position. However, after getting to know him and his team, I was certain that I wanted to be involved in what they were doing. It is definitely a privilege to be able to contribute to that for the outstanding student-athletes who visit Texas. Prior to joining the NFL, Baker played for three seasons for Western Kentucky. During that time, he assisted the Hilltoppers in winning three straight bowl games and shaped defensive end DeAngelo Malone into the Conference USA Player of the Year and 2021–22 NFL Draft pick.

In 2019, Baker also worked for a year at Tennessee Chattanooga. From 2014 to 2018, he coached Mercer’s defensive line. After playing for three years as a starter at Gardner-Webb, he started his coaching career there in 2009. Naturally, Baker faces a challenging assignment in trying to unseat Davis, one of the top defensive line coaches in the league. Having said that, the 37-year-old is among the coaches with the quickest career growth rates. Put otherwise, his past performance indicates that he is more than capable of taking on the assignment. “I am ecstatic about this fantastic opportunity,” Baker exclaimed. The University of Texas is the main institution involved. It possesses a legacy, customs, and benchmark of greatness that any coach would be proud to be a part of. As a lifelong college football fan who has watched Texas from a distance, I have always valued how well-respected and ethically sound they are. It is truly an honor and a joy to be a part of this outstanding university and the Longhorn Football program in Austin. My family finds it amazing as well, and we are all eager to get going and establish connections with the Longhorn community.
