Texans QB C.J. Stroud Reveals Close Bond With Snoop Dogg: ‘Blessing On My Life!’
NFL QB C.J. Stroud Says He Has a Close Relationship With Snoop Dogg: “Grateful For My Life!”
QB C.J. Stroud of the Houston Texans participated in the Snoop Youth Football League during his middle school years.
As the quarterback of the Houston Texans, C.J. Stroud is now the overwhelming favorite to earn Offensive Rookie of the Year in a little over a week.
Approximately ten years prior, while still in middle school, Stroud was participating in the Snoop Youth Football League, which was established in 2005 by well-known rapper Snoop Dogg to provide inner-city youth with the opportunity to play football. Stroud was coached by Snoop Dogg in addition to being a league player at the time.
Even after all these years, Stroud and Snoop Dogg continue to have a strong relationship. Snoop Dogg called Stroud “laser-focused” and compared his bond with the Texans quarterback to that of a “proud father” on The Rich Eisen Show earlier this month.
He’s really upbeat, Snoop Dogg remarked. The fact that he is promoting a different story than many of the other players in the league is what makes him appealing to me. He is simply speaking with optimism and promoting a genuine story of spirit love.
Stroud, 22, shows Snoop Dogg the same deference. Speaking with PEOPLE, Stroud said of Snoop Dogg, “just like one of us,” citing similarities in their upbringing in Southern California. The rising star continued by saying that Snoop Dogg played a significant role in both his early and adult life.
“He used to invite us to his house and things like that,” recalled Stroud. That makes a big difference. Simply said, it seems to be more than just where you are from. He demonstrated to us that life has much more to offer. I am really very thankful and appreciative of Coach Snoop and everything he has done.”
“I’m still in contact with him and he’s been a blessing on my life for sure.”
With just five interceptions in his career, Stroud, the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, finished one of the best rookie quarterback seasons in league history, throwing for 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns. In addition, he guided the once-downtrodden Texans to the AFC South championship and a trip to the Divisional Round.
The Ohio State kid seems like he’s just getting started in the NFL, but don’t worry—his former coach will be keeping a close eye on him the entire time.
