Saints Fire Doug Marrone, Their Offensive Line Coach Among the Expected Reforms
The National Football League’s (NFL) well-known personality Doug Marrone is no longer a member of the New Orleans Saints coaching staff.
In an unusual midseason exit, the team fired Marrone as their offensive line coach, creating a big commotion throughout the league.
After serving as the Saints’ position holder for two years, Marrone’s time was suddenly cut short on a Saturday, according to multiple accounts.
This is a huge shock given his credible experiences coaching for several decades and his tenure with other NFL teams.
The 49ers passing game coordinator Klint Kubiak may be the next offensive coordinator the Saints hire, as they are now making suggestions about.
Kubiak intends to completely overhaul the offensive apparatus as he brings in his preferred assistants to help him change the way the Saints attack now operates.
The seasoned coach, Marrone, led the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2017 to 2020 after serving as the starting quarterback for the Buffalo Bills in 2013 and 2014.
Prior to joining the Saints, Marrone was the head coach at Syracuse and spent a long time serving as an assistant coach, which included two stints with the Saints.
Marrone’s abrupt exit coincides with a particularly difficult period for the Saints. Regretfully, the squad has missed the playoffs for three years running.
With the team struggling with limited cap space and a run of missed field goals in the playoffs, head coach Dennis Allen is attempting to implement a new offensive scheme that will hopefully motivate quarterback Derek Carr to perform better.
Carr’s $30 million guaranteed salary is proof of how important he is to the Saints, and the team will surely depend on him for future plans.
It is evident that the squad will be depending a lot on his abilities in 2024 when they play.
