Toronto Blue Jays confirm as landing spot for experienced Yankees Star

Top destination for former Yankee free agent slugger is thought to be the Blue Jays

This offseason, one former New York Yankee could find himself back in the American League East. This offseason, former Yankees slugger Gio Urshela is searching for a new place to call home through free agency. Despite the short sample size, the 32-year-old played well in the 62 big league games he saw last season. Urshela hit.299/.329/.374 for the Angels, driving in 24 runs and hitting two home homers. Though it’s unknown where he will end up, Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report has suggested the Toronto Blue Jays as the best option.

“Since breaking out with the New York Yankees during the 2019 season, Urshela has racked up 10.4 WAR over the past five seasons,” Reuter reported. “He can play all four infield positions, which makes him a viable option for practically any contender trying to add depth. He can even fill a larger role when necessary. Toronto Blue Jays are the anticipated landing spot. Urshela had the most success as a Yankee, but he started his big league career with the Cleveland Guardians.

He hit 21 home runs, 74 RBIs, and a slash line of.314/.355/.534 in 132 games in 2019. It appeared for a while that he would remain with the Yankees, but he was moved to the Minnesota Twins before the 2022 season and made an impression.

Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a strong attacking game and versatility in the infield. Although it’s uncertain if Toronto will sign him, a transfer might make sense. Reuter connected Urshela to the Blue Jays and projected landing destinations for the best free players available. At some time, perhaps, we could witness a move.
