Breaking News: LSU Tigers Confirm Departure Of Another Man

One of the LSU defensive staff members has left the team.
After serving in a variety of capacities for two years, LSU defensive assistant John Jancek is no longer with the club, The Advocate has discovered.

When head coach Brian Kelly sacked four defensive coaches in the first few days of January, Jancek was kept on, but his future role needed to be decided. His contract was up in a year.

Football Scoop reports that LSU also fired offensive analysts Terry Malone and John McDonell. The previous two seasons, they were employed.

In 2022, Jancek, a former defensive coordinator at Tennessee and Georgia, became a defensive analyst on Kelly’s first staff at LSU. After one season, he was elevated to the position of coordinator of special teams and outside linebackers. However, his responsibilities were rearranged after defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey left the team prior to preseason camp due to a health concern.

Five games into the season, LSU called in veteran defensive line coach Pete Jenkins to assist with the position because Jancek lacked much expertise coaching defensive line.

Bob Diaco, who was also kept on during the last month’s revisions, was still featured on LSU’s revised online directory on Monday, but if he stayed on the squad, his responsibilities would have to alter.

Last fall, Diaco coached special teams and outside linebackers after Jancek moved to the defensive line. Since then, LSU has brought on Kevin Peoples to teach edge rushers and Slade Nagle to oversee special teams.
