The Nuggets’ top moves to make by the NBA Trade Deadline in 2024
The Nuggets may make a couple moves during the NBA Trade Deadline to provide more depth.
The defending NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets, should be regarded as the favorite to rise above the competition and win back-to-back NBA Finals despite not being at the top of the Western Conference rankings. But the Nuggets may still try to bolster the squad as the NBA Trade Deadline draws near on Thursday.
The depth of the Nuggets is one of the more worrying problems they have. The free-agent losses of Bruce Brown and Jeff Green hurt their bench. Both players played important rotation roles in the championship run. The NBA’s best starting five is the Nuggets group. However, the Nuggets should strive to add bench depth before the season’s closing stretch by watching the NBA Trade Deadline.
More wing depth off the bench would be beneficial to the team. Someone with the ability to both score baskets and consistently threaten from three points distance. The Nuggets may consider making a few transactions involving two players who are purportedly available for trade in order to address that.
Nuggets exchange Saddiq Bey for
By the trade deadline, the Atlanta Hawks are willing to move Saddiq Bey, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints. After being traded to the Hawks during the previous season’s trade deadline, Bey has had a somewhat uneven season this year. Bey could be able to return to his previous season’s form with a change of setting.
Bey will have several shot creators on the Nuggets, which will make it simpler for him to get easy looks at the hoop. In just 25 games with the Hawks during the previous season, he had a 40% three-point shooting percentage. He’s dropped to 30.8 percent so far this season. Throughout his career, Bey has consistently shot 35 percent or better from a distance.
This season, Bey has continued to score double digits, averaging 13.0. His only needs would be to be able to shoot three points with consistency and to get a bucket with the second unit for the Nuggets. He can play several positions and is of decent size. The Nuggets should definitely contact him if he’s available.
Alec Burks is traded for Nuggets
The Nuggets may also consider Alec Burks as a means of bolstering their backup wing depth. The Detroit Pistons may decide to keep him for the remainder of the campaign, but he has apparently been on the trade market.
Burks has also had a poor year following a productive 2022–2023 season. Although the Pistons have been the worst NBA club, some of that can be attributed to other factors other just Burks. Perhaps a change of environment and a competitive, winning locker room can help him resume producing at a high level.
Burks hit 41.4 percent from three-point range and 43.6 percent from the field in the previous campaign. With superior shot producers to complement him with the Nuggets, there’s no reason he couldn’t return to those percentages. The Nuggets should investigate their options to acquire Burks if the Pistons are willing to trade him.
Julian Strawther, a young, promising player on the bench for the Nuggets, might be able to help with some of these problems. As a rookie, Strawther showed glimpses of potential and is poised for success as a pro. However, if the Nuggets want more of a seasoned, established presence going into the postseason, Bey and Burks may also be choices.
