Three Players Are Acquired by Milwaukee Brewers From Texas Rangers In A Blockbuster Trade Proposal
Trades involving elite players before they become free agents are nothing new for the Milwaukee Brewers. Corbin Burnes was dealt a few weeks ago, while Josh Hader was dealt in 2022. The next potential trade prospects are Devin Williams, who has two years remaining, and Willy Adames, who is in his final year of team control.
With a year and a half remaining on his contract, Josh Hader was moved to the Brewers, who also obtained Dinelson Lamet, two prospects, and Taylor Rogers, a reliever, for a few months. Following the completion of the deal, Lamet was ultimately assigned.
However, the Orioles sent the 34th overall pick in the 2024 MLB draft to the Burnes package, which included infielder Joey Ortiz, left-handed pitcher DL Hall, and infielder. Milwaukee can now take control of their own destiny thanks to this transaction, which also included a high draft pick as a third potential player. Hall and Ortiz are both under team ownership until 2030.
Devin Williams currently has two years left on his contract. What kind of haul could the Brewers expect for him if he were moved soon? Here, we look at a potential trade with the Texas Rangers.
A trade proposal between the Texas Rangers and Milwaukee Brewers was based on Devin Williams.
Rangers are given: RHP Devin Williams
RHPs Brock Porter (4), Marc Church (19), and Emiliano Teodo (22) are received by the Brewers.
The Brewers acquire three quality prospect arms in this hypothetical trade; Teodo and Porter start while Church relieves. Although Church was added to the Rangers 40-man roster this off-season, none of the three have yet made their Major League debut.
These arms all have remarkably high strikeout rates. Porter, a 2022 fourth-round draft choice, struck out 95 batters in 69 innings thrown in the previous season. Church’s K:9s over his first three minor league seasons were 16.13, 14.33, and 11.47. Last but not least, Teodo, who signed as a free agent abroad at the age of 18, struck out 115 batters in 84 innings in 2022 and 84 more in 64 innings the following year.
Of all of them, Teodo possesses the most electrified arms. He tops out at 103 mph and maintains a constant velocity of 95–98 mph as a beginning pitcher. In terms of speed, Porter is not far behind him because he can run between 94 and 97 mph when he gets going. In a similar vein, Chuch’s 65-grade fastball clocks in between 94 and 97 mph.
With this transaction, the Rangers would have a surefire closer for the ensuing two seasons. Due to the possible consequences of a TV agreement, Texas has struggled to spend money this off-season. However, Williams inked a two-year contract earlier that will pay him $7 million in 2024 with a $10.5 million club option for 2025.
However, this trade gives Milwaukee access to more excellent pitchers in their farm system. Church is the only player who is ready for the major leagues, but Teodo and Porter have upside potential that might pay out in the long run.
