Potential Odell Beckham Jr. replacement for the Ravens is a Lions starter.
In the NFL offseason of 2024, the Baltimore Ravens will have to make a few important decisions.
They will need to decide how best to use their cap space in order to retain the group that finished with the NFL’s best record in 2023, as they have over 20 players who can test the free agent market this offseason.
Wide receiver is one position where those choices may result in significant adjustments.
Having made a significant amount of money in 2023, Odell Beckham Jr. might be searching for a larger contract in 2024.
The organization may choose to replace him with a cheap option at the position if they choose not to re-sign him.
Wide receiver Josh Reynolds could end up with the Ravens, according to Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine, who mentioned the team in an article about the NFL’s most underappreciated senior free agents.
After serving as a consistent option for the Detroit Lions for the previous two and a half seasons, Reynolds is about to enter free agency.
A Time With the Lions for Reynolds
When Reynolds was selected by the Lions, it was an unexpected inclusion. In the midst of the 2021 season, the Titans released him, and the Lions made the decision to bring him into their failing club.
The decision has proven beneficial. To end that season, he made 19 catches for 306 yards in just seven games.
After that, he caught 38 passes for 479 yards.
With Jameson Williams starting his second season in the league and Sam LaPorta joining the team in 2023, he was predicted to take a slight step back.
Rather of giving up the WR2 position to Williams, he was able to hold onto it and record 40 catches for 608 yards and 5 touchdowns.
These figures are comparable to what the Ravens acquired from Beckham Jr. in 2023, so if they sign Reynolds, they might be getting a good deal.
Ravens Must Make Their Investments Matter
In order to bolster their roster, the Ravens will need to identify some affordable choices during the 2024 offseason.
Many key players for the team are set to become free agents, and some of them will require significant pay increases in order to remain with the Ravens.
The organization won’t be able to afford a luxury like signing Beckham Jr. to a $15 million contract and assuming he remains an exceptional player because of those needs elsewhere on the squad this offseason.
Rather, they will have to look for higher wide receiver value.
Reynolds could be a great fit because of that.
Reynolds’ most recent contract only provided $3 million annually on average. He most likely won’t receive much more on the free market this offseason because that was the biggest contract of his career.
The team’s third pass-catching option, after Mark Andrews, who is an excellent tight end, and Zay Flowers, who made a quick impression as the team’s WR1 in his rookie campaign, will be Beckham Jr.’s replacement on the roster.
Additionally, the team possesses Rashod Bateman, whom they drafted in the first round in 2021 and are still hope develops.
The Ravens shouldn’t be looking to spend a lot of money on the WR2 position with all of those alternatives already on the roster.
