Browns defender acknowledges his future candidly
For the upcoming season, the Cleveland Browns must make a number of personnel decisions, both on and off the field.
They will soon have several players who are free agents due to expiring contracts in addition to a number of coaching changes.
One of those guys, seasoned safety Rodney McLeod, spoke with Dawgs By Nature recently about all things football and personal matters (via Dawgs By Nature on Twitter).
McLeod, who inked a one-year contract with the Browns during the previous offseason, will be eligible to sign free agency on March 13.
McLeod performed admirably as a defender and concluded the season with 29 total tackles while playing a more restricted role with the Browns.
McLeod, who is 33 years old, is one of several illustrious veterans who is thinking of retiring. He is undoubtedly nearing the conclusion of his career.
But when he stated in the interview that he’s not done with football and would prefer not to be done with the Browns either, he dispelled such notions.
He acknowledges that he didn’t perform to his best last year and that he would like to have at least another year to make amends.
He added that he would love to return for 2024 if Cleveland is willing to have him back.
Given his extensive postseason history and 2017 Super Bowl victory with the Philadelphia Eagles, McLeod is sure to draw some attention.
Having just finished his greatest season to date (2022), in which he recorded 96 tackles, two interceptions, and a defensive touchdown with the Colts, he also has a lot to prove to Cleveland, having signed a one-year contract with the franchise.
