The Texans have the best chance in free agency to get Buccaneers wide out star
Mike Evans, a great wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is most likely to sign with the Houston Texans.
Star wide receiver Mike Evans is expected to become a free agent after ten seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, giving him the ability to sign with any team he desires. He has more than 1,000 receiving yards in each of his NFL seasons, all of which have been spent in Tampa.
Whichever team ends up with Evans will have one of the league’s most dependable and consistent wide receivers. Naturally, the Bucs’ chances of regaining the five-time Pro Bowl receiver would increase if they can hold onto Baker Mayfield.
Which teams are therefore in the greatest position to sign the 30-year-old receiver? The Houston Texans have a higher chance than the Buccaneers to sign him in free agency, according to Bookies.com. The Buccaneers have +325 odds to re-sign Evans, while they have +300 odds to sign him.
Evans would likely be in a more secure environment if he joined the Texans as opposed to going back to the Buccaneers. As a rookie, CJ Stroud has excelled, even winning a postseason game; Evans would offer a reliable playmaker to help Stroud continue to progress.
With their current trajectory, the young Texans have the potential to continue creating something truly unique. While Evans’ return to the Buccaneers would allow the club to continue growing, it would also assist expedite that advancement.
There is much less assurance over the Buccaneers’ future. In the event that neither Mayfield nor Evans show up, things would be rebuilt and somewhat reset.
The Chiefs (+450) are among the other teams with favorable odds; if they make this deal, Patrick Mahomes, who has won two consecutive Super Bowls, will have his best weapon since Tyreek Hill was moved. The two other clubs with the best odds to select the standout receiver are the New England Patriots (+900) and the Chicago Bears (+750).
The best-case scenario, of course, would be for the Buccaneers to re-sign Evans, which would mean that Mayfield would probably return. After winning the Super Bowl in 2021, he would carry on leaving his mark in Tampa while the team looks to win another one.
