Breaking News: Yankees GM In Talk To Sign Another Experienced San Diego Padres Star

Scott Boras is reportedly exaggerating the New York Yankees’ interest in Blake Snell, the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, according to NJ.com’s Randy Miller. While USA Today’s Bob Nightengale and MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand suggest serious interest from the Yankees, Miller’s source calls the claim of a new contract offer “Total BS.” Boras, Snell’s agent, is suspected of inflating the Yankees’ interest to drive up the price, particularly with the Giants and Angels, who are apparently more motivated to sign the left-handed pitcher.

Contrary to reports, the Yankees have not made a second contract offer, as per Miller’s source. With their current starting rotation set for the 2024 season, negotiations with Snell would only intensify if an injury occurs among the starters or if Snell significantly lowers his asking price. The Yankees initially offered Snell a six-year, $150 million deal, but Boras countered with a nine-year, $270 million proposal, leading the Yankees to sign Marcus Stroman instead.

Snell is now willing to accept a reduced deal, although the exact amount is unknown. The Yankees, according to Nightengale, are monitoring Snell’s long-term asking price, hoping for a drop or considering a short-term deal exceeding $35 million per season.

There is speculation about whether the Yankees are bluffing to gain leverage in negotiations. Having traded pitching depth for outfielders in December, General Manager Brian Cashman acknowledges the delicate balance in the pitching staff and is open to further moves. SNY’s Andy Martino suggests the Yankees may not be satisfied with their pitching staff and could explore a spring training trade, possibly involving Chicago White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease.

Conflicting reports surround the Yankees’ interest in Snell, and with Boras known for prolonged negotiations, the outcome of Snell’s free agency saga remains uncertain.
