Texans Secure Services of Seasoned Cornerback D’Angelo Ross for 2024
In the midst of a busy off-season filled with potential big-name acquisitions, the Houston Texans, under the leadership of general manager Nick Caserio and coach DeMeco Ryans, have initiated a revamp of their roster. A significant move in this direction was revealed on Wednesday, as the team officially confirmed the re-signing of cornerback D’Angelo Ross.
Having initially joined the Texans in November 2022 and starting his tenure on the practice squad, Ross seized the opportunity to make an impact during the 2023 regular season due to injuries within the team. Over the course of 13 games, he logged 258 defensive snaps and played a key role in the Texans’ 19-13 victory against the Tennessee Titans on Dec. 17.
Coach Ryans commended Ross for his exceptional coverage skills, speed, and decisiveness after the triumph, highlighting his standout performance alongside fellow player Cam. Ross, who began his professional journey as an undrafted free agent from New Mexico in 2019, previously played for the New England Patriots and later joined the Miami Dolphins in 2022.
Despite securing Ross’s services, the Texans still find themselves in need of a cornerback, especially given the potential departure of Steven Nelson, who is among the 25 players slated to enter free agency in March. Ross’s ability to fill in for Nelson during the latter’s stint with a foot injury showcases the team’s strategic depth planning.
In addition to the cornerback position, the Texans addressed the defensive line by signing Marcus Haynes on Tuesday. Haynes, a second-year player who went undrafted after the 2023 NFL Draft, spent the previous season on the Denver Broncos’ practice squad roster.
