The Baltimore Ravens have reportedly secured Dennis Johnson, the former defensive line coach for the Baylor Bears, to fill the vacancy left by Anthony Weaver, who was hired as the new defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins. The Ravens, coming off a remarkable 13-4 regular season with a standout defensive unit, faced the challenge of rebuilding their coaching staff due to successful seasons often attracting interest from other teams.
According to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, the Ravens have chosen Dennis Johnson to step into the role of defensive line coach. Johnson, previously with Baylor since 2020, has also held the same position at LSU, his alma mater.
At the age of 35, this marks Johnson’s debut in the NFL coaching realm. During his tenure at Baylor, he contributed to coaching a defense that ranked in the top 20 nationally in categories such as rushing defense, points allowed, and sacks per game.
Taking charge of a Ravens defensive unit set to retain most core players from the previous season, Johnson will face the challenge of molding and guiding the team, with the exception of Justin Madubuike, who is poised to enter free agency on March 13 unless the Ravens employ the franchise tag or successfully negotiate a long-term deal with him.
