Good News: Just In Georgia Bulldogs Confirm The Signing Of Another Experienced Man

The Georgia Bulldogs have added James Coley, former offensive coordinator for Florida State football, to their coaching staff. Coley, who initially agreed to a similar position at South Carolina, ultimately joined Georgia as the wide receivers coach.

Coley has a history with the Bulldogs, having previously served as the wide receivers coach, quarterbacks coach, offensive coordinator, and assistant head coach under Kirby Smart. His coaching career includes three separate stints at Florida State, working under head coach Jimbo Fisher in various roles from 2003 to 2004, 2010 to 2012, and 2020 to 2023.

Notably, during his tenure as the Seminoles’ offensive coordinator from 2010 to 2012, Coley played a key role in developing three quarterbacks—Christian Ponder, EJ Manuel, and Jameis Winston—who were all selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. Winston, in particular, won the Heisman Trophy and was the first overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Coley’s impact on the Seminoles’ offense was evident, with notable increases in points and yards per game, reaching nearly 40 points and 470 yards per game in 2012. His recruiting expertise also contributed to FSU securing the top-ranked recruiting classes in 2011 and 2012, according to ESPN’s rankings.

Despite his experience and success as a coach, Coley has never held a head coaching position at any level, from high school to the NFL. His return to the Bulldogs’ coaching staff marks his second stint with the team, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise in offensive coaching and recruiting.
