Auburn Secures Four-Star Cornerback Devin Williams, Prevailing Over Alabama and Others
In a significant victory for the Auburn Tigers, four-star cornerback Devin Williams, hailing from Buford, Georgia, has chosen to commit to Auburn over rival schools like Alabama. Williams, recognized as one of the premier cornerback recruits in the 2025 class, made his commitment public on Monday, emphasizing his complete dedication and referring to Auburn as his “home.”
Head coach Hugh Freeze and his coaching staff played a pivotal role in securing Williams’ commitment, with special acknowledgment to cornerbacks coach Wesley McGriff, known by the moniker “Crime Dawg.” McGriff’s influential role in building a strong rapport with Williams was crucial to this commitment.
Expressing his admiration for Coach McGriff, Williams stated earlier, “I love Coach Crime. I love his personality. I love what he’s about. I love what the coaching staff is about. I like what they’re telling us. They just keep producing guys. That’s why I’m back at Auburn.”
Williams’ commitment to Auburn was solidified after two recent visits, including participation in a junior day event. The combination of these visits and Coach McGriff’s effective recruiting skills ultimately swayed Williams to choose Auburn, triumphing over competing offers from notable programs such as Notre Dame, Alabama, Tennessee, and Texas A&M.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Williams holds the impressive standing of being the 11th-best cornerback in the 2025 class. This commitment marks a significant success for Auburn’s recruiting efforts and further solidifies the program’s appeal to top-tier talent.
