Bills Anticipated to Lose Secondary Receiver to Giants in Upcoming Offseason
Since Brian Daboll assumed the role of head coach for the New York Giants, the Buffalo Bills have witnessed several of their former players and coaches migrate south. According to Cody Benjamin from CBS Sports, the next in line to reunite with his former offensive coordinator could be the Bills’ No. 2 receiver.
Benjamin predicts that Davis will join the Giants during free agency, citing financial constraints that might prevent the Bills from matching a potentially sizable contract for the receiver. Davis himself has hinted at an impending departure, bidding farewell to fans ahead of his contract expiring in March.
Noteworthy Move for Gabe Davis
While acknowledging the Giants’ offensive line issues, Benjamin suggests that Davis could be a crucial acquisition for them this offseason. Despite Davis’s occasional inconsistency, Benjamin notes his explosive playmaking ability and speed on the perimeter as valuable assets.
Davis, a preferred target for quarterback Josh Allen over four seasons in Buffalo, accumulated 163 catches, 2,730 yards, and 27 touchdowns. However, his performance wavered, notably during the final stretch of the 2023 season when he went without a catch in four of the last eight games.
Signals of Departure from Bills
Expressing a desire to explore free agency, Davis, on January 22, mentioned his fondness for Buffalo but emphasized the business aspect of evaluating other opportunities. Davis hinted at a potential exit by sharing a heartfelt video on Instagram, expressing gratitude to Bills fans and recalling memorable moments with the team.
Despite inconsistencies, Davis is anticipated to attract a substantial contract as a proven No. 2 receiver on the open market. Analysts project a three-year deal worth $37.5 million in free agency, recognizing Davis’s ability to stretch the field, even though he has been deemed less than a consistently reliable option.
While his catch percentage and other statistics have raised concerns, Davis’s field-stretching capabilities are seen as a valuable asset that can benefit an offensive coordinator by opening up opportunities in the short-to-intermediate passing game.
