Braves Sign Minor Leaguer Skye Bolt.
Skye Bolt, an outfielder, has signed a minor league contract with the Braves. He replaced a defensive player in today’s exhibition game against the Tigers to make his Spring Training debut.
Bolt, 30, hopes to make his major league return for the first time since 2022. Between 2019 and 22, the North Carolina native made appearances in three major league campaigns with the two Bay Area clubs. Bolt played most of those seasons with the A’s, going 42 games with a.198/.259/.330 slash line. His career hitting line through 187 big league plate appearances is.156/.205/.266.
Bolt has performed better than one might anticipate in Triple-A. Over four seasons, the switch-hitter had a slash line of.298/.388/.483 at that level. That has largely occurred in Pacific Coast League parks with good hitting conditions. With Milwaukee’s top farm team a year prior, he was less productive, with just a.257/.359/.367 line in 64 games.
Bolt moves at a speed that matches his name. Despite having little power, he can play all three outfield spots and has often gotten a respectable amount of walks in the lower leagues. Though he’ll provide depth at Triple-A Gwinnett, it’s highly doubtful that he’ll earn a spot on the Opening Day roster.
While Jarred Kelenic, Michael Harris II, and Ronald Acuña Jr. form a solid starting outfield for Atlanta, their top depth choices lack major league experience. Together, the two outfielders on the 40-man roster, Forrest Wall and J.P. Martínez, have played in 32 major league games. A few non-roster players have been added by the Braves in an attempt to compete for a fourth outfield spot. Big League Camp is for Leury García, Jordan Luplow, Eli White, Luis Liberato, and Luke Williams.
