Outfielder from the Rangers Signs with the Padres
According to MLB.com, former Texas Rangers infielder Brad Miller has found a home on the west coast. On Tuesday, he signed a minor league contract and received an invitation to the San Diego Padres’ Major League spring training.
After the Rangers won their first World Series, Miller was a free agent. However, a hamstring injury put him on the 60-day injured list in September, so he had to watch from the dugout. Before the 2022 season, Miller was signed by the Rangers to a two-year deal. He quickly assumed a utility role but never saw consistent playing time.
Miller was limited to 27 games and a.214 batting average in 2023 due to injuries and the rise of Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran as exceptional utility players. Despite playing in 81 games more in 2022, his batting average in that year was only.212. Since his 2021 season in Philadelphia, where he appeared in 140 games, batted.227, hit 20 home runs, and drove in 49 runs, Miller has not been a regular member of the team. He has mostly been a journeyman since 2018, switching teams frequently and filling in as a utility player.
This was the same month that Miller’s hip labrum tore and that Tampa Bay traded him to Milwaukee in June of 2018.
He then bounced to the Cleveland Guardians, the New York Yankees, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Phillies. After being traded from Seattle in 2016, he joined the Rays, where he experienced his greatest success. His 81 RBI and 30 home runs were career highs.
