Russell Wilson and the Giants met.
Now, another team is rumored to be interested in Russell Wilson.
Wilson spoke with the Giants in New Jersey prior to his planned meeting with the Steelers, as revealed by PFT.
Wilson was seen at the Newark airport earlier on Friday morning, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. The first person to report on what was described as “an exploratory meeting” between the Giants and Wilson was Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Quarterback Daniel Jones, who signed a four-year deal with New York last year, will have a guaranteed salary of $36 million in 2024. However, in the six games that Jones was able to play in 2023, his performance was below average. With just two touchdowns and six interceptions, he completed 68 percent of his passes for 909 yards, enough for a 70.5 passer rating. Taking 30 sacks, he was tackled on 15.8% of his dropbacks.
Wilson, then, might provide the Giants some competition at the quarterback position.
In 15 games during the previous season, Wilson completed 66.4 percent of his passes for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. Denver still has to pay him in 2024, so he might accept the veteran minimum.
Schefter adds that, in addition to the Giants and Steelers, the Raiders might be interested in meeting with Wilson.
