Rams LB in free agency is linked to the Falcons.
Following his appointment as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, Raheem Morris frequently brought assistants from the Los Angeles Rams to create his staff. Could Morris act in a same manner if he had free will? According to OverTheCap, the Falcons have $37.2 million in salary space and about thirty roster places that need to be filled, the most important of which is a starting quarterback. Morris has a few choices from the group he oversaw as defensive coordinator the previous season, but he won’t find a signal caller from Los Angeles.
One of them is linebacker Christian Rozeboom, who will be available for free after being untendered; The Athletic reports that the Falcons may be interested in Rozeboom. The Athletic states, “His situation with former Rams coaches is worth watching.”
Morris and seven former Rams assistants, along with other members of the strength department, make up Atlanta’s staff. Jimmy Lake, the new defensive coordinator for the Falcons, was the associate head coach for the Rams in the previous year. During the previous season, Rozeboom, 27, participated in 17 games for the Rams, making five starts.
In the end, he recorded 79 tackles, two tackles for loss, four interceptions, and two quarterback hits. Rozeboom, a 2020 South Dakota State graduate who was an undrafted free agent, began his rookie campaign on the practice squad of the Rams.
The next season, he was waived following training camp and signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he made his NFL debut in Week 7. Less than a week after Los Angeles plucked him from Kansas City’s practice squad, he developed into a reliable special teams player over the next two and a half years. Rozeboom responded to Morris and the Rams’ one-year contract offer by having his greatest season to date. With Kaden Elliss, Troy Andersen, and Nate Landman all expected to return, Atlanta boasts a formidable linebacker trio; but, the guys beyond them are questionable.
Even while Rozeboom isn’t a particularly exciting name, his rapport with Morris and his versatility as a special teams and pass-coverage player could make him the ideal choice at linebacker number four. On Monday, March 11, the legal tampering period starts, and on March 13, free agency starts at 4 p.m.
