The tight end and the Minnesota Vikings With T.J. Hockenson recuperating from reconstructive knee surgery, Johnny Mundt secured some depth at the position by agreeing to terms on a new deal on Friday.

Next week, Mundt was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent. After spending five years with the Los Angeles Rams, the veteran of seven years has spent the previous two seasons with the Vikings. Last season, he participated in all 17 games and recorded a career-high 17 catches for 172 receiving yards.

Tight end Nick Muse, who was about to become an exclusive rights free agent, was re-signed by the Vikings earlier this week. Josh Oliver, the blocking-focused No. 2 tight end behind Hockenson, who tore both the ACL and MCL in his right knee during Minnesota’s Dec. 24 loss to Detroit, is also under contract.
