Alabama’s first out-of-state commit is added by Kalen DeBoer to the class of 2025.
This spring, Alabama’s coaching staff will need to foster team unity, implement a new offensive and defensive plan, and begin recruiting members of the class of 2025, which will arrive soon. On that front, it received some encouraging news on Saturday.
Zymear Smith of Maryland made his commitment to the Crimson Tide known on social media. His decision was made after Smith and more than 70 other recruits were accepted by UA in Tuscaloosa. On February 14, Smith revealed his offer to attend Alabama. This was a big gain for Kalen DeBoer and company as more rising seniors are anticipated to make their choices as summer draws near.
Smith, who is 5-foot-10 and weighs 1660 pounds, is being recruited to play cornerback. Smith is a four-star, per On3, Rivals, and ESPN. He is the fourth overall and the class’s first out-of-state commit for the Tide. He joins athlete Myles Johnson, defensive lineman Antonio Coleman, and running back Anthony Rogers.
Smith ran for 670 yards and eight touchdowns in nine games as a junior at North Caroline. He also had four touchdown receptions. Smith led the defense in caused fumbles, made 22 tackles, and intercepted three passes. After going 9-2 in the previous fall, the Bulldogs advanced to the second round of the playoffs.
According to 247Sports, UA’s class is presently ranked 28th overall. Over Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt—all of which have won a game apiece—the Tide are ranked eleventh in the SEC.
