Jaguars sign Gabe Davis from the Bills for $39 million while Calvin Ridley looks into the free agent market.
The Jaguars implemented their Gabe Davis plan without waiting for Calvin Ridley to choose his future team.
According to rumors, the Jaguars and Davis reached an agreement on a three-year, $39 million contract that includes an additional $11 million in incentives, while Ridley, the best receiver available in free agency, looks into his market.
In a market that had recently been diluted by late extensions (Buccaneers’ Mike Evans) and franchise tags (Tee Higgins of the Bengals and Michael Pittman of the Colts), Davis and Marquise Brown were seen as Ridley’s top alternatives among free agents. According to reports, Higgins asked for a trade, and Pittman used his tag to get an extension.
The abundance of receivers in the 2024 NFL Draft class who have first- and second-round rankings according to analysts may result in a decrease in the cost of receivers who hesitate to sign in free agency.
In four regular seasons, Davis collected 163 receptions for 2,730 yards and 27 touchdowns, making him a fourth-round selection gem for the Bills.
Most notably, he set a postseason record with four touchdown receptions in the thrilling overtime playoff game between the Chiefs and the Bills in January 2022.
Although Ridley is a great target for an overpay given the absence of other established 1,000-yard possibilities, the Jaguars are allegedly not ruling out the possibility of signing him.

After serving a full 2022 suspension for breaking the league’s gambling policy, Ridley made a spectacular comeback the previous season.
Because head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen are from Buffalo, the Giants have ties to Davis.
