Although the veteran linebacker’s status with the Eagles fluctuated last season, he ultimately fulfilled a larger-than-expected role. The veteran starter will be brought in by the Bills, who showed interest.
According to NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo, who writes that the parties agreed on a one-year contract on Tuesday, Buffalo will sign the former ILB for the Raiders, Bears, and Eagles. For the Eagles in the previous season, Morrow started 12 games. He accomplished this while serving as Philadelphia’s defensive signal-caller, thus in 2024 his departure will be felt.
Playing a significant part in the Eagles’ defense, Morrow recorded 95 tackles, which is his second-highest career total. The former UDFA signed a one-year contract with the Bears last offseason despite surpassing 100 stops in 2022. Following his involvement in a defense that faltered miserably in the latter stages of the Eagles’ NFC title defense, Morrow will once more be traded via a short-term deal.
Tremaine Edmunds left Buffalo in free agency the previous season, leaving a significant hole at linebacker. As a result, 2022 third-round pick Terrel Bernard assumed a starting role and amassed 143 tackles and 6.5 sacks. Though he was also widely utilized on special teams (as he has been in recent years), Tyrel Dodson also had a noteworthy defensive workload. The latter is a future free agent, and Morrow’s signing may portend his exit.
Either way, the 28-year-old will provide a wealth of experience to go along with that of veteran Matt Milano and Bernard. With the Eagles last season, Morrow played in 94 games (58 starts) and recorded three sacks, five pass deflections, and one forced fumble. He wants to avoid Philadelphia’s late-season disappointment and try to match or surpass those numbers in Buffalo.
