Breaking News: Alabama Crimson Tide product, lands a deal with the Panthers

Shawn Robinson, a Crimson Tide product, lands a deal with the Panthers.

A’Shawn Robinson, a former star defensive lineman for Alabama, has signed with the Carolina Panthers, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. “The Panthers have agreed to terms with veteran DT A’Shawn Robinson on a three-year, $22.5 million deal, source says,” Garafolo reports. “Following a year with the Giants, Robinson reunites with Ejiro Evero, the former Rams assistant and now DC who pushed for Robinson.”

The Panthers, who ended with the poorest record in the league the previous two seasons, are trying to rebuild a sizable portion of their team, which is why they made this move. Furthermore, the Giants—Robinson’s most recent team—signed Brian Burns, Carolina’s top edge rusher. The Los Angeles Rams signed the 46th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft after he played his first four seasons with the Detroit Lions as a free agency. Robinson had a significant role in the Rams’ Super Bowl run in 2021, his second season with the organization.

He finished with 22 tackles in four postseason games and a sack in the championship game. Robinson was signed by the Giants for a one-year contract when his contract ended at the conclusion of the 2022 campaign. Robinson recorded 62 tackles, including six for loss, in 17 games (13 starts) last season, but New York chose not to extend him. Robinson totaled 39 games, three years, and 133 tackles (22 for loss) along with nine sacks while at Alabama. He was selected to the All-SEC First Team and named a Consensus All-American for his junior year (2015).

Along with wide receiver Cam Sims, defensive lineman LaBryan Ray, and quarterback Bryce Young, the 28-year-old joins the Panthers as their fourth Crimson Tide graduate.
