Gay played in 57 regular season games with 47 starts over his four seasons with Kansas City. He totaled 231 tackles (148 solo), 17 stops for loss, five sacks, and four interception returns for 85 yards and one touchdown.
Executive vice president and general manager of the New Orleans Saints Mickey Loomis announced today that the team has reached an agreement with unrestricted free agent linebacker Willie Gay for a one-year deal.
Gay, 6-1, 243, is a four-year veteran of the NFL who was originally chosen out of Mississippi State by the Kansas City Chiefs in the second round (63rd overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft. He played in 47 regular season games with 47 starts for Kansas City over the course of four seasons. He finished with 231 tackles (148 solo), 17 stops for loss, five sacks, four interception returns for 85 yards and one touchdown, 19 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and two special teams stops. In addition to starting all nine of his postseason games with the Chiefs, including two Super Bowl wins, the Starkville, Mississippi native also finished with 29 tackles (18 solo), three stops for loss, a single sack, three passes defensed, and one forced fumble.
A career-high 15 starts and 16 regular season games later in 2023, Gay played for the Chiefs. He recorded 58 tackles (44 solo), four stops for loss, one sack, a 24-yard interception return, four passes defensed, one forced fumble, a career-high and club-best three fumble recoveries, and he tied for third in the NFL with four stops for loss. He finished with nine tackles (five solo), one stop for loss, and one pass defense in three postseason starts.
Gay played in 31 games with six starts over the course of three seasons at Mississippi State (2017–19). He recorded 99 tackles, 46 of which were solo, 11 stops for loss, six sacks, three interceptions, seven passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.
