Report: On Wednesday, the Raiders plan to release Jimmy G.
Before the 2019 season begins, Matt Maiocco and Jennifer Lee Chan talk about what the 49ers can anticipate from Leonard Floyd and the remaining work that needs to be done to strengthen the defensive line.
Jimmy Garoppolo, the former quarterback for the 49ers, looks to be switching teams once more during the offseason.
Garoppolo is anticipated to be cut by the Las Vegas Raiders on Wednesday, according to sources cited by Dianna Russini of The Athletic on Tuesday.
A few clubs are reportedly considering Garoppolo despite knowing he won’t be available for the first two weeks of the regular season, according to Russini’s report.
In 2024, Garoppolo will serve a two-game suspension for breaking the NFL’s rules regarding performance-enhancing substances.
The 31-year-old began the 2023 season as the starting quarterback for the Raiders. He played in seven games for Las Vegas, ranking second in the passing game to fourth-round rookie Aiden O’Connell for a significant chunk of the season.
With the 49ers, Garoppolo made appearances in 57 regular-season games. From 2017 to 2022, San Francisco had a 38-17 record when Garoppolo started at quarterback.
Despite never quite being able to overcome their early season setbacks with Garoppolo at quarterback, the 49ers saw continuous success in the postseason with him starting 4-2 of the games.
Even if Brock Purdy is leading the 49ers’ offense at quarterback, San Francisco will always have a lot of memories from Garoppolo’s time with the franchise.
Given the constant need for seasoned quarterbacks, it would not be shocking if Garoppolo found a new home shortly.
