Giants bring in two veterans to strengthen their offensive line.
By acquiring two free agents to their roster, the New York Giants are bolstering the depth of their offensive line. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Giants signed experienced offensive linemen Aaron Stinnie and Austin Schlottman on Friday afternoon.
Giants sign sign LG John Stinnie
Giants display LG In 2023, the 30-year-old offensive guard John Stinnie started 11 games as a starter for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Having joined the team in 2018, he has started 12 games during the regular season and 3 during the postseason, which included the Buccaneers’ victory in Super Bowl LV.
Stinnie saw action in 717 offensive snaps in 2023. During the season, he gave up two sacks and 29 pressures while receiving a total Pro Football Focus rating of 56.6. This past season, Stinnie started all 11 games at left guard. Along with the Giants’ marquee free-agency addition, Jon Runyan, who is expected to start at left guard, he will give depth to the position.
Giants sign OG/OC Austin Schlottmann
As depth, Big Blue is also adding Schlottmann, another interior offensive lineman, to its roster. Despite being younger than Stinnie—28—he has more playing experience. In his five years in the NFL, Schlottmann has made fourteen starts and appeared in 67 games.
Schlottmann moved to the Minnesota Vikings in 2022 after starting seven games in his first two seasons with the Denver Broncos in 2019. In 2023, he started three of the contests.
Schlottmann played for 249 snaps last season, giving up seven pressures and one sack while earning a 62.6 overall PFF rating. Similar to Stinnie, Schlottmann ought to be seen as a reserve player who will support other offensive line starters for New York, such as center John Michael Schmitz, who is in his second year.
The Giants’ main goal this offseason was to bolster their offensive line. Last season, they had too many injuries up front, which made things difficult for them the whole time. Stinnie and Schlottman are two dependable veterans who should help keep the Giants from getting into another precarious situation.
