Breaking News: Buffalo Bills Confirm In Talk To Release Another Top Experienced Star

Despite struggling with injuries during the last three seasons, Tre’Davious White, a free agent cornerback, is well enough to begin visiting teams.
Over the past two weeks, the Buffalo Bills have parted ways with a number of longstanding members of the organization, and Tre’Davious White, a free agent, was one of the largest. The former first-round choice was one of the league’s top cornerbacks at the height of his abilities. After being chosen from LSU, the cornerback was named to the First Team All-Pro in 2019 and was invited to the Pro Bowl in 2020. The Bills granted him a four-year, $70 million agreement to stay with them until the 2025 season after this campaign.

Sadly, White’s injury history has kept him off the field for the majority of the previous three seasons. The All-Pro had an ACL tear late in the 2021 season, which kept him out of the game for a significant chunk of the 2022 season. Then, in Week 4, 2023, he suffered an Achilles tear. With Tre’Davious White coming off a lengthy injury streak and carrying a hefty cap hit, the Bills were forced to let him go and become a free agency.

Even though he has a high chance of injury, his lengthy list of medical conditions won’t mean the end of his playing career. Tre’Davious White will start scheduling visits with free agents this week, starting with the Los Angeles Rams and Las Vegas Raiders, according to Mike Garafolo.

This week, Tre’Davious White will begin accepting visits from free agents.
Seeing the type of free agency market that develops for Tre’Davious White will be interesting. When playing at his peak, the LSU graduate is one of the few guys in the NFL who can line up across from a standout wide receiver and take their game away. His last $70 million agreement shows how valuable that kind of skill set is in the pass-happy NFL of today. But it’s also been a while since we’ve seen that version of White. The cornerback hasn’t appeared like himself in recent years, even off the field.

The most likely option is a one-year contract with lots of incentives. Not Likely To Be Earned (NLTBE) incentives could be used by any team hoping to sign Tre’Davious White as a free agent to reduce his salary charge while still providing the cornerback with a sizable payday. A team might, for example, offer a $1 million incentive to player White if he plays in five games this season, and White would not have to worry about the salary cap consequences until 2025.

Tre’Davious White has scheduled visits with the Rams and Raiders as free agents, but they won’t be the only teams to do so. Though there’s a good probability the former All-Pro’s injuries have taken their toll, these other three teams might take a risk on the cornerback.
