Good News: Just In Atlanta Falcons Confirm The Signing Of Super Bowl Finalist To A Three Year Deal

On Wednesday night, the first day of the new league season, the Falcons announced the signing of tight end Charlie Woerner.

Michael Rothstein of ESPN was the first to report on the signing’s specifics, claiming that it was a $12 million three-year contract.

After spending four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, the native of Georgia is back home to play for the Falcons. In the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Woerner of Georgia was selected by the Niners.

Over his four seasons as a rookie with San Francisco, Woerner caught 120 receiving yards on 15 targets. Woerner spent most of his time on special teams, where he was mainly used as a blocking specialist. He played with the squad 79% of the time this past season, an average of 74% over the previous four seasons.

In the three consecutive NFC Championship runs by the 49ers, Woerner started seven games and played in all.

There will be some upheaval in the tight end room for the Falcons. Players like MyCole Pruitt and Jonnu Smith will move on, and Woerner will take the spot next to Kyle Pitts and John FitzPatrick. On Wednesday, Pruitt became available to the public as a free agent, and the Dolphins signed Jonnu Smith, who was recently released by the Falcons.

Woerner, on the other hand, is going back to his origins. He attended Georgia for his college football career from 2016 to 2019, following an impressive career at Rabun County High School in Tiger, Georgia.
