Pro Bowler Chase Young signs a one-year, $13 million contract with the Saints.
Chase Young, a defensive end in the Pro Bowl, has finally found a new team after taking longer than expected to sign a free agent contract. Young is reportedly scheduled to play in 2024 for the New Orleans Saints.
Young and the Saints have agreed to a one-year, $13 million contract, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. There is a complete guarantee on the purchase.
The Washington Commanders selected Young with the second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, to begin his NFL career. In his journey to NFL Defensive debut of the Year and Pro Bowl recognition, he recorded an outstanding debut campaign with 7.5 sacks and one defensive score.
Young had a difficult sophomore campaign, averaging just 1.5 sacks over the first nine games prior to an ACL injury that ended his season. Washington declined his rookie option for a fifth year, limiting him to just three games in 2022.
In exchange for a third-round pick, the Commanders moved Young to the San Francisco 49ers in 2023, following a strong start in which he recorded 5.0 sacks in seven games. By the end of the regular season, Young had racked up 2.5 sacks for the 49ers, and in the team’s defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII, he added another. Young was clearly a valuable addition to the team.
