The New Orleans Saints have announced that Veteran Safety has resigned. Jonathan Abram
A seasoned defender returns for the Saints’ secondary.
The veteran S Johnathan Abram of the New Orleans Saints was re-signed, the team confirmed on Wednesday. This occurs barely one day after S. Ugo Amadi was re-signed by the squad.
Just before free agency began, S Marcus Maye was released by New Orleans. Lonnie Johnson, a reserve defensive back, signed a contract with the Houston Texans, so they also lost him. On the defensive end, Amadi and Abram will reunite with safeties Tyrann Mathieu and Jordan Howden.
In the 2019 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders selected 27-year-old Abram out of Mississippi State in the first round. During his four years as a Raider, he broke up fifteen passes and intercepted three others. Nine of his 207 tackles were for loss, and he had 125 solo stops.
Abram was cut by the Raiders in the middle of the 2022 season. After being signed by the Green Bay Packers, he played three games there before concluding the Seattle Seahawks’ last six games.
Abram was signed by New Orleans in the previous offseason’s free agency. Abram, who was most effective as an in-the-box safety, played in nine games for the team, starting three of them. He appeared in 35% of the defensive snaps.
In 2023, Abram had one intercepted pass for the Saints. In all, he had 26 tackles, 12 solo stops, and one for loss. Last season, New Orleans’ pass defense was ranked tenth. They ranked seventh in terms of points allowed and 13th overall in defense.
