Done Deal: Just In Bucs GM Confirm To Reach Contract Agreement With Another Top Experienced Star

Lavonte David and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a fantastic combination.

For the thirteenth season, the gifted defender will return to Raymond James Stadium.

Even though not many players are able to have such a significant impact so early in their careers, general manager Jason Licht thinks he’s just had his best year to date.

To get him back, he signed him to a one-year contract for that reason.

Furthermore, Licht feels that David satisfies every requirement the team has for a player (via Around the NFL).

“He embodies it perfectly,” Licht remarked. He truly is the embodiment of our ideal child. In our draft room, we have a silhouette of a Bucs player that reads, “I am that man.” It doesn’t reveal his face, but it is Lavonte, and this is the kind of player we want. It’s he that we search for each year. He is the norm.

In the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft, the 34-year-old was selected by the Bucs.

He recently finished with 134 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 15 games for Todd Bowles’ squad, which is his highest total since 2016.

Because the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons are also improving, David will need to be at the top of his game for the Buccaneers to win three straight NFC South Division titles.

After the Bucs’ NFC Divisional Round defeat to the Detroit Lions, some believed he was ready to ride into the sunset and hang up his boots. However, it appears the great linebacker isn’t ready to hang up his boots just yet, and the Bucs will be happy to have him play for as long as he wants to.
