All-SEC defender in CBS gives the Baltimore Ravens defense an advantage. NFL Pro Model Selection.
In CBS.com, the Baltimore Ravens add a rookie defense. NFL Mock.
This offseason, the Baltimore Ravens’ only goal is to assemble a team capable of winning the Super Bowl and getting over the hump. The 2024 NFL Draft is intriguing because Lamar Jackson and company are looking to improve both offensively and defensively after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2023 AFC Championship Game.
The Ravens gained running back Derrick Henry to their offensive lineup during the initial wave of free agency, but they lost some important players to free agency, including inside linebacker Patrick Queen and EDGE Jadeveon Clowney, who is still unsigned. Will the team look to the draft to fill the vacuum left by not re-signing the veteran pass rusher?
The First-team All-SEC Edge rusher selection gives the Baltimore Ravens a defensive edge.
The player selected in the most recent NFL Mock Draft by CBS.com is Missouri star edge Darius Robinson, a 2023 First-team All-SEC defender who led the Tigers with 14 tackles for a loss and 8.5 sacks. An intriguing choice for the Ravens at No. 27.
Josh Edwards has updated his NFL Mock Draft, writing:
Baltimore’s offensive line has suffered some serious losses, so it is unlikely that the team will overlook that unit in the opening round. The starting offensive guards for the Ravens would be Ben Cleveland, Andrew Vorhees, and Patrick Mekari, but there are too many unknowns for a contender to feel secure in that lineup. In spite of everything, a run at the position has already occurred, and the team now has to replace Jadeveon Clowney.
Robinson’s size, speed, and power, at 6-foot-5 and 285 pounds, would be a perfect fit for the Ravens’ aggressive defensive scheme. He will help to fill part of Clowney’s hole with his high motor and raw power in getting quick advantages over blocks, but he will need time to become used to the NFL, and the Ravens have the proper combination of seasoned leadership on defense to allow him to develop gradually.
Overall, Edwards made a decent pick, but Chop Robinson, a strong prospect at the NFL Combine who is from Maryland, would be a better fit for the Ravens at No. 27. [Chop] Robinson might be selected on Day 2 or anywhere from the mid-to-late first round in certain mock drafts. Though Chop is slightly smaller than Darious Robinson, he has demonstrated the kind of speed that might be useful in stopping a quarterback like Patrick Mahomes.
Despite the fact that the Ravens should take wide receiver Adonai Mitchell, NFL Mocks projects that the team will select Mitchell. The team may need another youthful target for Jackson, since Odell Beckham Jr. is not anticipated to be re-signed. The Ravens offense should be good with Henry, Mark Andrews, and Isaiah Likely as tight ends, and quick receiver Zay Flowers, but they would be difficult to stop with another large target.
Regardless of the path the Ravens take with choice number 27, they are in a position where the selection should be able to contribute in 2024.
