Breaking: Browns GM Andrew Berry provides Nick Chubb update

GM of the Browns Andrew Berry updates Nick Chubb
Injury update depicts a gradual progression for the starting running back for the Browns

The recovery of quarterback Deshaun Watson from shoulder surgery will be the narrative of the Cleveland Browns 2024 season. To take advantage of their strong defense and offensive weaponry, the Browns need Watson to develop into one of the best 15 quarterbacks in the NFL, as penalties for defensive plays can be severed.

The most tragic injury to Cleveland during the 2023 season was that of running back Nick Chubb. Following the season, General Manager Andrew Berry made certain remarks that raised questions on Chubb’s future. The team hinted that the standout running back would make a comeback “at some point” in 2024 in their statements following each of his surgeries.

Speaking at the NFL owners’ meetings, Berry reiterated their expectations for Chubb’s return the following year. However, they raised more red flags regarding the timeline, stating that training camp and offseason activities are scheduled for “in the coming months,” even though the NFL season is still more than five months away. If Chubb’s rehabilitation is still ongoing, he won’t play a significant role in any of those.

It appears that the Browns will try to renegotiate Chubb’s deal. He has a cap hit of more than $15 million and is now in the last year of his contract. Cleveland would save almost $12 million if they cut him, but it appears more likely that they will sign an extension or rewrite their contract.
