Brutalized Three-team trade that sends Rortvedt to the Rays gives the Yankees infielder Jon Berti from the Marlins.

Houston (AP) — After being acquired by New York as part of a three-team trade with Miami and Tampa Bay, Jon Berti might start at third base for the injured Yankees against Houston on Thursday.
While outfielder Shane Sasaki moved from the Rays to Miami, New York sent catcher Ben Rortvedt to the Tampa Bay Rays and minor league outfielder Juan Cruz to the Marlins.
Due to a bone injury in his right foot, DJ LeMahieu is on the injured list. The 34-year-old Berti might step in at third base at this time. More testing is scheduled for this Friday. The former batting champion has been out of action since fouling a ball off his foot on March 16. Furthermore, Oswald Peraza, an infielder for the Yankees, will not be able to throw for six to eight weeks due to an injured right shoulder, the team announced on March 9.
“DJ is obviously a factor at third base, given his injury,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone stated on Wednesday at a Zoom press conference. “Hopefully, once we’re healthy, he can play all infield positions and even some outfield duties. He’s a good bat to ball hitter who can also steal bases.”
Boone stated that Gleyber Torres will probably lead off and that he wanted to wait until Berti was in Houston to decide whether or not he starts against the Astros. His other choice for third base is Oswaldo Cabrera.
The Yankees just finished their worst season since 1992 with a record of 82-80. With a batting average of.227, the Yankees were 29th out of 30 teams.
Boone expressed his hope that the offense would perform more in accordance with expectations. “We get to go see how good we think we are tomorrow.”
Boone is about to start his last season under contract.
