With an elbow injury, the Braves place Spencer Strider on the injured list.
Atlanta On Sunday, the Braves summoned right-hander Allan Winans from Triple-A Gwinnett and placed star right-hander Spencer Strider on the 15-day disabled list.
Following an MRI on Saturday that showed a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, Strider’s move was anticipated. At an undisclosed date, Strider will have additional evaluation by Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, Texas, before a decision is made regarding potential Tommy John surgery that may finish the season.
Winans was anticipated to be a part of Gwinnett’s rotation after finishing 1-2 with a 5.29 ERA in six starts with Atlanta the previous season. If Winans takes Strider’s place in the Atlanta rotation, at least temporarily, the Braves have not stated so.
After pitching four innings and giving up five runs on seven hits in Atlanta’s 6-5 victory against Arizona on Friday night, Strider expressed soreness in his elbow. With 20 victories and 281 strikeouts in the previous season, he topped the majors.
