Browns formally bid fan favorite RB farewell.
Kareem Hunt’s chances of playing for the Cleveland Browns again seemed remote, and now that D’Onta Foreman has been given his jersey number, it appears almost certain that Hunt won’t be coming back.
On April 9, the jersey numbers of a few of the players that just signed with the Browns were revealed. Hunt had worn No. 27 for the previous five seasons until Foreman claimed it. When he first joined the NFL, Foreman wore the same number with the Houston Texans.
Foreman made an intriguing decision considering that he is anticipated to play a similar position to Hunt’s with the Browns. Hunt was signed by Cleveland during the previous season, just after Nick Chubb’s season-ending injury in Week 2. He was a member of the running back committee with Pierre Strong Jr. and Jerome Ford.
Fans favored Hunt because of his aggressive running style. But he was not the explosion he had once been. The previous season, Hunt’s longest run was 16 yards.
With 135 carries for 411 yards at the end of the season, he averaged a very meager 3.0 yards per carry. He did, however, contribute most significantly when playing short yardage scenarios. During the regular season, Hunt recorded a team-high nine running touchdowns. In a Wild Card loss to the Houston Texans, he added two more touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving.
Kareem Hunt Continues to Search for a New Team
Hunt was amenable to the notion of playing for his hometown Browns again. He will, however, be rooting for the team virtually even if he isn’t donning orange and brown come next season.
“I wouldn’t be opposed to returning if the opportunity were to arise right here. Hunt declared on January 15 that “I want to do nothing but help them win the Super Bowl because it’s my hometown.” Cleveland is my hometown, so winning a championship there would make me happy and content no matter what happened, even if I was playing for a different team. Hey, if that were to happen, I would definitely be there at the parade supporting them. I am grateful that I was able to accompany the team on this trip for such a long time, and I wish the organization and the Cleveland Browns nothing but the best.
With little interest in free agency thus far, Hunt will probably have to wait for his next chance. Last year, he had a few of bites, but the season began without a team. Stump Mitchell, his former running backs coach, made some intriguing remarks that might not be helpful to him.
Getting the most out of Kareem was something I was unable to accomplish when I was there. In January, Mitchell told News 5 Cleveland, “I hope the next coach can get the best out of Kareem if they bring him back.” “The goal of coaching is to improve a player, but I was unable to persuade him to arrive at practice on time or to avoid being the last person out of the room during meetings. Although Kareem is a fantastic player, this is a team game.
D’Onta Foreman is what the Browns want to replace Kareem Hunt.
Foreman has spent the past three seasons playing for three different teams, but he has produced well. He made eight starts for the Chicago Bears in the previous season. With 109 carries, Foreman gained 425 yards and four touchdowns.
With the Carolina Panthers in 2022, he had his best season. Foreman gained 5 touchdowns and 914 yards on 203 carries, at an average of 4.5 yards per carry.
In order to decide when Nick Chubb might make a comeback to the field, the Browns are currently waiting for additional details. Chubb has had two knee operations and is currently recovering. It is anticipated that he will play next season, though a precise schedule is yet to be determined.
The offseason additions to the running back room, according to Browns general manager Andrew Berry, don’t reflect the team’s feelings about Chubb’s development. Foreman is anticipated to take on a position akin to Hunt’s from the previous season, he continued.
Berry stated on March 29 that “to be honest with you, I wouldn’t read too much into it.” “I really believe that D’Onta’s skill set is pretty similar to how we used Kareem last year.”
Foreman will gain a lot of supporters in Cleveland fast if he can run with the same intensity that Hunt did.
